Steampunk & Synthesizers: The New Logo!

Thanks to the fantastically talented Rob Carlos, the RenWritings site has a new dynamic logo. Leaning on the steampunk aesthetic and my fondness for anachronism, here it is. Swirly, a little bit brassy, and a bit of a wink towards my utter inability to focus on a single genre for more than an hour at a time.

What do you think? Awesome, yes? I am a fan.

And please do me a favor and swing by Rob’s site, if you haven’t already. The man has mad skills, and if you don’t already have some of his art brightening up your walls, I’m sure you’re gonna want to correct that oversight tout de suite. Go on! Hurry! And tell him Ren sent you. :)

The Claws Clause

“This meeting will now come to order,” rang the official tone of the Magistrate, accompanied by the percussive tones of the gavel which had been handed down for uncounted generations. “All attendants will now take their seats.”

It took another handful of minutes while the attendees shuffled and scurried towards the available seating. Eventually, however, they were seated and a gradual hush fell over the chamber.

Drive

I drive a ridiculous car.

I mean, it’s a small car. A red car. It’s a hatchback, and it gets good gas mileage, but…. Have you ever seen a car and just thought, “that car is ME”? Like, my car is NOT that car. It was cheap, it was fuel-efficient, and it has a pretty roomy back end.

(Good lord, I need to not write things like that out loud.)

A Long Long Time Ago...

I’ve never sat on the floor of a theater before. It’s probably filthy, and I’m pretty sure my mom would have grounded me for doing something so horribly irresponsible, but what she didn’t know wouldn’t hurt me. Besides, I’m seven. Being seven means you get to do stupid things like sit on the carpet in the aisle of a movie theater.

Also besides…. This was Star Wars.

The Bottle Opener

“Michelle! You got a bottle opener somewhere?”

The disembodied voice from the living room answered. “On the fridge. Looks like the Millennium Falcon.”

“The what?”

Silence fell upon the kitchen, followed by an astonished exclamation, again from the other room. “Oh my god, Steven, you did not just say that.”
