Blogs are hoppin’ as part of the Meet My Character Blog Tour! Here’s how it works, as explained to me by the author who tagged me:
“This tour highlights a main character from your WIP (work in progress), recently published work, or soon to be published work. The person who invites you will have a set day to post. You will post one (or two) week(s) after that, the authors you tag will post one/two week(s) after you, and so on. Here are the questions to answer about your main character:
1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
2) When and where is the story set?
3) What should we know about him/her?
4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
5) What is the personal goal of the character?
6) Is there a working title for this novel if it is a WIP, and can we read more about it? OR what is the title of this novel and where can it be found?
If a WIP: 7) When can we expect the book to be published?
It is suggested that authors recruit 2-4 others to continue the chain. There is no pressure to have any specific number; this is just for fun and is a nice way to get more cross traffic between all our sites/blogs. Please send the one who tagged you a short bio and any links to blogs, author pages, etc. you wish him/her to use so he/she can tag you in style.”
I was tagged by the one and only Emma Michaels - here is her bio, as posted on her site:
Growing up my best friend was my library card and books were my home.
I loved being surrounded by books and when times got tough books saw me through them. As I grew and realized (through book blogging) that others loved books as much as I did I started to share my writing and while there have been a few bumps in the road there is nothing more fulfilling than hearing from someone who cared enough to read my work. I went from one true friend to hundreds of absolutely amazing people who have changed my life for the better on a daily basis.
And here are my answers to the questions!
1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
In my most recent novel, the steampunk fantasy novel "Steel & Sky", the main character is Sjora Kahn'dyr.
2) When and where is the story set?
It is set in the fictional world of Aerthos, several years following the events depicted in the "Chronicles of Aesirium" series. It takes place on a different continent, across the ocean from Oldtown-Against-the-Wall.
3) What should we know about him/her?
Sjora is one of the Sky People, a pseudo-nomadic culture that lives its life in traveling citadels, high above the face of Aerthos. They have developed their society to be in harmony with magic and the aether, rejecting technology and science, and yet, from time to time, they have to interact with the scientists who live in the Steel Cities. And for that, they need someone like Sjora. A pilot. A captain. And, on occasion, a pirate.
4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
At the beginning of "Steel & Sky", she's a woman with a mission. Along with her crew - the blind and wise old wizard Johen Qeist, her young ward Daris Faol, and Sjora's animal companion Trill - Sjora has been ordered back to the Steel City capital Fernis Eld to steal...a dead man. It seems like a simple enough task, until she discovers that the dead man is not nearly quite as dead as he had appeared to be.
5) What is the personal goal of the character?
Sjora has only had the last few years of her life to consider the possibility of personal goals - until she took on the role of ambassador (in her case, a fancy title to grant her access to the skylanes and nearby cities), she had only a life of responsibility to the Sky People to look forward to. But with the wind in her hair, that playful horizon staying forever just beyond her reach, and all of Aerthos waiting to be explored, the idea of spending the rest of her life bound to a single city seems now a bit more like indentured servitude. With one eye looking towards the future, the other winks closed, fearful of a life she may grow to despise.
6) Is there a working title for this novel if it is a WIP, and can we read more about it? OR what is the title of this novel and where can it be found?
The title of book one of Tales of the Dead Man is "Steel & Sky". Book two is currently in progress, titled "Sun & Stone". Book one is available at Amazon, both as an ebook and in paperback format.
If a WIP: 7) When can we expect the book to be published?
Book 2 should be out at the end of 2014.

Now, I've been challenged also to challenge a couple of other authors, and keep this book blog tour alive and active.
My first tag is H. L. Reasby:
H.L. Reasby is a resident of the beautiful Pacific Northwest where she lives with her husband and a small menagerie of pets, including a cat, a crazed Pug, and a rambunctious German Shepherd Dog. She is an avid reader, a fan of action and sci-fi and fantasy movies, and also enjoys both computer and pen-and-paper gaming.
My second tag is for Matt Nelson:
Matt Nelson was born in 1976. That means he's super old. He lives in Spokane, WA with his cat, Jiji and draws comics all the time when he's not messing around with video games or stupid stuff on the internet. So basically, just like every other cartoonist ever. Isn't that embarrassing? Not very unique at ALL. You can view his work at catbeardthepirate.com and mattnelsonart.com
And my third tag is for Kaye Thornbrugh:
Kaye Thornbrugh is an award-winning reporter and the author of Flicker and Brightly, urban fantasy novels for young adults. When not writing, Kaye can often be found reading fairy tales or creating elaborate collages. For the latest updates on the next installment of the Flicker series and for news about Kaye’s other projects, connect with her online at www.kayethornbrugh.blogspot.com
